My Healthy Living Guide

"Make healthy living a LIFESTYLE instead of a fad to lose weight & you will be successful.." 



Taking care of yourself is a life long journey in which you will constantly learn WHAT and WHAT NOT to do. Yes, that does mean taking care of the inside as well as the outside. Staying well is a priority of mine and just like you, a reader of my blog, I have made healthy living a lifestyle and constantly see the benefits of having that lifestyle set in place. I love being able to enjoy healthy eating, working out and the way that it makes me feel everyday. I just wish more people out there would be able to experience the same feeling!

I have been fortunate enough to have come to know some very inspiring people who know their ins and outs of healthy living, and have taken a few pages out of their book over the time I have known them. For me, being healthy is not just an activity I do every once in a while (Which is unfortunately what a high percentage of our society has come to do) But a priority I am dedicated to everyday. Choosing the right foods, the skincare that works for me, practicing yoga, and keeping fit ensures I have heaps of energy and I'm able to stay in shape, despite what my schedule might be or where I am. 

MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY:
I go by the 80:20 rule. What is it you ask? Eighty percent of the time I eat food that is highly nutritious and basically what I believe to be 'the essentials' for my body. The remaining 20 percent is the area I grant myself the occasion to indulge in the things I could not go without- Like chocolate bullets! YUM!

HEALTH TIP:
DON’T DEPRIVE YOURSELF!

We are all human, and we all have our food in life we love! I believe in having a balance – If that balance is not there, you will end up going overboard and consuming 20 servings of what you would normally have 1.

When it comes to working out, I hear A LOT of this one particular excuse...

“Yeah  ... But... I don’t have time to exercise”

If you have found yourself saying this – You NEED to change your attitude. Only you can make the change in your life.. and by constantly using excuses of why not to, you will eventually find yourself 20 pounds heavier. Things are easy to do and easy not to do - It is just a matter of saying YES to exercise at every chance you can get! You cannot put a price (or time constraints) on your health, if you cant find time to be healthy - Some time sooner or later you will have to find time for illness. 

Even if it is just a 20 minute high intensity work out 3-5 times a week, it is still supplying your body with the exercise it needs. When you get a headache, body pains, or feel like rubbish – Your body is trying to voice to you that it is missing something essential. Taking small steps at a time by starting off working out twice a week - To then maybe three times a week will help you gain the strength and stamina you require to then go on and work out as many times as you like!

Don’t you want to look and feel great? SO... What is stopping you? Instead of sitting in front of the TV for 45 minutes during your day – Go and do a workout! That TV will always be there, but your waistline may grow! ;)



 


MY WORKOUT WONDERS:

This might sound a little daunting to some of you when I say that I work out 6 times a week... But once you start, you feel incredible & motivated to keep going. The feeling you get after a kick-ass work out is out of this world and makes you feel so amazing. Now I am not suggesting you go to the gym 6 times a week and absolutely kill yourself - I work out that many times a week because I enjoy it, not because I have to.  My workouts have been created by my personal trainer. I mix it up with cardio, strength sessions and toning exercises which help me stay lean, toned and fit. If you are unsure of what is best for your body consult a personal trainer on what workouts will work best for you – As everyone is different and has different needs.

- My ‘secret’ to a lean body? -

I RUN & skip! And it is no secret - Running & skipping helps work not only one but every single part of my body. It is the cardio exercises that can help you lose that extra weight OR help you maintain it. Part of my exercise routine consists of running for a good 25 minutes from 4 - 5 kilometers. This will keep you lean and cardio fit, and make sure you are drinking lots and LOTS of water pre-workout + post workout! Staying hydrated is very important.

THE LOW DOWN ON YOGA:
I LOVE practicing yoga – It is so relaxing, keeps my body flexible and really helps me center my thoughts. This is also a fantastic alternative to keep your body feeling good if you are sick.

More than often the emotional reasons that can really help someone change their outlook on their health and well-being. It might be the need to get the most out of their life, or the desire to fit into those sexy Bettina Liano jeans. Whatever it may be – We are driven by emotions. I believe if you are truly interested in improving your physicsl and general well-being, this should be enough motivation to help you achieve your goals.....
